July 2016 Ministry Update

The National Center for Life and Liberty continues to stand in the gap for churches, Christian schools, ministries, and law-abiding Americans, doing everything possible to protect their religious liberties and constitutional rights. We will not cower to the overt resistance confronting believers nor yield to the egregious measures designed to intimidate them. It is God who granted these most basic rights, and because no man can take away what God has granted, by His grace and strength, the NCLL will defend them.

The timing of our efforts has never been more critical, and while examples abound of why this is so, one particularly troubling example is a bill making its way through the California legislature that would effectively remove the distinctions religious schools currently enjoy.

Ostensibly framed as an anti-discrimination measure, California Senate Bill 1146 (SB 1146) would no longer allow Christian schools to require that their students take Bible classes, live in separate dorms, use separate bathrooms, and the like, based on the notion that such requirements are discriminatory.

Dr. Kurt Krueger, president of Concordia University Irvine, noted in a letter about the bill: “The most troubling provision of this bill limits the religious liberty to integrate faith and learning throughout the educational experience…(It) effectively eliminates the religious exemption under current law that allows Christian colleges and universities to operate in accordance with their beliefs, including the freedom to hire only Christian faculty and staff. If passed without amendments, the new law would also very likely disqualify students attending California Christian colleges and universities from eligibility for Cal Grants, a key state-level student aid program.”

The NCLL will continue its work in educating and equipping ministries to deal with measures like this egregious California legislation. Below are some specific areas in which you can pray for the ministry:

  • Pray as we assist homeschool families in the Northeast who are experiencing difficulties with college acceptance and financial aid.
  • Pray for a church that is starting a new outreach ministry to youth.
  • Pray for a church that is being threatened with the loss of a local property tax exemption.
  • Praise the Lord that over the last month the NCLL has been able to assist dozens of churches and schools nationwide to update their church bylaws and fall enrollment documents to protect them from the LGBT agenda.
  • Praise the Lord that over the last month the NCLL has been able to assist dozens of churches with implementing the new Federal Labor Standards Act regulations, which are prohibitive for many smaller churches.
  • Praise the Lord that the NCLL was able to assist a church with making its bus transportation safer for its children.
  • Praise the Lord that the NCLL was able to assist a church with hiring standards for day care workers.
  • Praise the Lord that hundreds of churches and ministries nationwide are being helped and blessed by the current legal seminars being offered by Atty. David Gibbs III.

Thank you for the prayers and support that enable us to continue these efforts each month.
