The North Carolina governor’s office has put in place new requirements for COVID-19. After reviewing the mandate and confirming with the governor’s office, the orders state that religious facilities are not subject to executive order 176, and the language from 169 applies, which includes the following:

  • Worship, religious, and spiritual gatherings, funeral ceremonies, wedding ceremonies, and other activities constituting the exercise of First Amendment rights are exempt from all the requirements of this Executive Order, notwithstanding any other provision of this Executive Order. 8 The undersigned strongly urges that entities and individuals engaging in these exempted activities follow the Recommendations to Promote Social Distancing and Reduce Transmission, wear and require Face Coverings, and avoid exceeding Emergency Maximum Occupancy in the places where they meet.

It is important to note that these new executive orders do not require any changes for churches except to re-emphasize the mask mandate. If you have any questions about this update or would like to discuss how this order affects your church or ministry, please contact us at 888-233-6255 or by email at info@ncll.org.
