Every January, Pro-Life Americans somberly, prayerfully mark the dark anniversary of Roe v. Wade. More abortions have been committed in the United States since 1973 than the current population of New York and California combined—over sixty million unborn have been killed in the womb. Forty-five years after the Supreme Court’s deadliest decision, Christians continue to pray and work to save lives at every age and stage.

January Recap and Looking Ahead

The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which would have banned abortions after the twentieth week of gestation, failed in the US Senate on January 29. Yet, similar legislation has passed in more than fifteen state legislatures. Other life-saving measures (such as parental involvement, Title X defunding, informed consent, etc.) at the federal and state level will continue to be fought over and debated throughout the year.

With the head of Planned Parenthood announcing her resignation, Christians must keep pressure on our leaders to defund the country’s largest abortion system and bring it to account for its barbaric practices. While Cecile Richards grew the financial and political influence of Planned Parenthood, during her tenure, undercover media activists exposed the scandalous practice of selling baby body parts and other abuses.

The heightened scrutiny of Planned Parenthood and other abortionists, as well as the public’s increasing rejection of abortion overall, means that Christians must remain vigilant. Let us encourage one another, “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.” (1 Corinthians 15:58)
